K-1st Grade Teaching Fellow- Associate Teacher

Summary:

Relay Graduate School of Education and Rowe Elementary School have launched a
partnership to offer aspiring and novice teachers an opportunity to receive high-quality teacher training and practice, while gaining a Master of Arts in Teaching and Illinois teaching licensure. This two-year teacher residency is designed for recent graduates and career changers as an innovative pathway into the teaching profession. This residency encompasses best practices with hands-on experience, and one-on-one coaching
with a mentor teacher. In addition to coaching from the assigned mentor teacher, residents will be included in all professional development and evaluative programs within the school community. Resident Teacher Timeline:

Year 1: K-1st Grade Associate Teacher

  • Full-time 1st Grade Associate Teacher at Rowe
  • Coaching from mentor teacher and Rowe Elementary School Deans
  • Attend weekly all staff professional development
  • Attend Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) coursework with Relay
  • Attend weekly Relay Resident-only practice sessions
  • Gain an Illinois Educator License with Stipulations (if eligible)

Year 2: K-1st Grade Lead Teacher

  • Full-time Lead Teacher at Rowe Elementary Schools
  • Coaching from mentor teacher and Rowe Elementary School Deans
  • Attend weekly all staff professional development
  • Attend Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) coursework with Relay
  • Gain a Master of Arts in Teaching
  • Gain an Illinois Professional Educator License (if eligible)

Credentials:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution no later than June 2018.
  • Major in a core content area (English, math, science, or a social science) to meet state credit requirements for alternative licensure.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
