Northwestern Settlement

Rowe Elementary School is a program of Northwestern Settlement

Vision:

Northwestern Settlement is a dynamic, and innovative leader in creating transformational opportunities for children and families to disrupt generational poverty.

For 125 years, Northwestern Settlement has NURTURED, EDUCATED, and INSPIRED through a holistic support system so that our families, as a whole, can take personal responsibilities for their future, and attain self-sufficiency.

NURTURE  |  EDUCATE  |  INSPIRE

The Settlement offers a wide array of programs and services in West Town and across the city. With education as the driving force, the majority of programs fall into three categories: Nurture, Educate and Inspire.

NURTURE

The Food Pantry and Family Services help meet our families’ immediate needs in a variety of ways: providing food, health screenings and educational opportunities on money management, budgeting and translation services.

The Settlement’s After School program offers school readiness and recreaational activities for children ages 5-12 in a safe environment before and after the school day.

The Family CARES Center provides counseling to children and families in the Settlement’s Early Childhood education and Rowe Elementary communities.

EDUCATE

Rowe Elementary and the Early Childhood Education collaborate on instruction to ensure that Early Childhood graduates who enter Rowe Elementary are kinder-ready and do not lose momentum as they make their transition.

The Gold Star and NAEYC accredited Early Childhood Education  (ECE) program at the Settlement, integrates responsive care into a research-based curriculum known as the “creative curriculum”, aimed at develoing social-emotional, physical, cognition, literacy, mathematics, science,  technology and language acquisition skills.

INSPIRE

Our nationally recognized Adventure Stage Chicago develops arts programming that is an integral part of our curriculum through creative play and performances.

House In The Wood Camp in Delavan, WI, provides residential camping experiences for families during the summer months and outdoor education for students during the school year.

AmeriCorps Project YES! connects caring adults with youth in and around West Town. Members serve the community through mentorship, educational, service, artistic, and recreational activities. Additionally, members develop their professional trajectory through their experience and professional development sessions throughout their service year.
